Dear Guta, sorry about what happened in london please forgive me
Digital photography and handmade collage
As a woman, I deal with the tension of living in a misogynistic world, where identity and image are often confused. Transnational fantasies generate symbolic and physical violence and lead to misrecognition of women.
The narrative Dear Guta, sorry about what happened in london please forgive me exposes a story involving the patriarchal male gaze, female objectification and post-colonialist fetishism.
Telling a personal story involving females and sexual violence, I know my only option is to call it fiction. As V. Wolf said in her essay “A room of one’s room”, ‘at any rate, when a subject is highly controversial—and any question about sex is that—one cannot hope to tell the truth.”
This story could have happened anywhere, anytime. As a matter of fact, it happens every fucking day. But rape culture is so widespread that we are consuming it with little or no awareness.
